Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. -Matthew 11:28-29 NKJV
Coming off the Easter Holiday this week, you do feel your heart slinking back into that funk of weariness?
So much anticipation and build up of joy for the Easter holiday, Good Friday and Resurrection Day. But the day after....Eh....anyone??
What do we do when it seems like the funk creeps back in, the weariness slides back into our hearts? Why do I feel so alone in my burdens again, Lord? Did you leave me? Now what?
Friend.
Jesus is the same as he was on Good Friday. He is the same as he was Easter morning. Jesus is the same today, as he was yesterday. He hasn't left you, and he knows this post holiday let down of emotions all to well in our humanness.
It doesn't mean our faith is lacking, it just simply means we need to re-commune, take slower breathes and allow him to fill us back up. Jesus is with you in your worship highs, and lows.
And in fact, he is even counting on your lows. Because that is where your connection is reignited, reaffirmed and re-birthed.
So this week, as the blooms are unfolding, the apple blossoms, and magnolias are starting to bloom in your neighborhood, think about that re-connection with Christ, post Easter. The story didn't end when the tomb was empty and Jesus ascended into heaven....and your relationship isn't over either. This is the beginning.
Jesus will provide the rest in our weary hearts when our daily tasks pile up, to do lists increase and busy schedules over run us. He is still there providing his loving kindness in the days where the laundry is never ending, the meals need fixing and the dog needs bathed, again. He is there in the days you feel invisible and worthless. He is there. He is right there. Let him carry you and your burdens, we are not meant to be weary disciples, but joyful ones. Let him fill your cup up.
Here's a great song I have been listening on repeat lately!
